These two, 2nd half of 18th century gouaches - "Romantic Park Landscapes with Figures" - seem to be works of well-known French landscape artist, chiefly working in technique of gouache painting, Louis Belanger. Nevertheless since these gouaches are unsigned, we have - despite being convinced of their authenticity - to offer them as "Attributed to Louis Belanger".

*Louis Belanger (1756 Paris - 1816 Stockholm) was a younger brother of the famous French architect François Joseph Belanger (1744-1818). The latter arranged for his friend, Louis Gabriel Moreau, to take on Louis as a pupil. Later he studied with Francesco Casanova. In the late 1770s he travelled through South France and the French Alps. In the early 1780s he lived in Italy. In the mid of the 1780s he returned to Paris. Probably due to the Revolution he settled in London where he had contact to French emigrés and in the 1790s exhibited (as court artist of Duc d'Orléans) at the Royal Academy. He also visited Switzerland in the 1790s. Some sources say that he unsuccessfully tried to emigrate to Russia in 1798. In the same year he made a trip to Finland and came to Stockholm in the summer where he remained until his death in 1816. In 1799 the Swedish king appointed Belanger his "first painter". In the same year he was elected as a member of the Swedish Academy. He exhibited regularly (in 1799-1803 and from 1807-1809) at the Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. Works of Louis Belanger can be seen in numerous European museums.
