Albert Theer (1815-1902) "Portrait of a young lady", miniature on ivory, 1830s
As comparison with OTHER WORKS OF THIS ARTIST IN OUR POSSESSION demonstrates, this large miniature on ivory with portrait of a young lady (dressed and hair-styled according to fashion of the 1830s) is with great likelihood one of the early works of well-known Viennese miniaturist Albert Theer.
Albert Theer (1815 Johannisberg - 1902 Vienna) was a member of a famous Viennese artist family. He was the younger brother of Robert and Adolf Theer and came to Vienna together with his brothers in 1820 to be a pupil of the Academy. He painted miniature portraits in watercolor and oils and worked as a lithographer. Albert Theer exhibited at the Vienna Academy from 1835 to 1848.
