It is one of the latest works of court miniaturist in Duchy Baden, Joseph (Jacob?) Spelter. It shows the 17/18-year-old Princess Caecilie von Baden (1838-1891), future Grand Duchess Olga Fedorovna of Russia, daughter-in-law of Tsar Nikolai I. (CLICK HERE for her extensive biography; see also our image nr.8 for another portrait of her in the same age).

Joseph or Jacob Spelter (ca.1805-after 1856) was a pupil of J.M. Morgenroth and royal portrait miniaturist at the Wuerttembergian Court in Karlsruhe (Germany), where he was recorded active until 1856. Especially known are his miniatures painted on porcelain. Once they arrive to art auctions, they receive remarkable prices.
