Miniature portrait of ca. 1-year-old Ferdinand, Duke d'Orleans (1810-1842), eldest son of Louis Philippe d'Orleans, future King of France. Our images nr.6-7 show other portraits of this child at the same age (CLICK HERE FOR HIS EXTENSIVE BIOGRAPHY IN WIKIPEDIA).

Family of the little prince lived to that time on Sicily (CLICK HERE for biography of Louis-Philippe ) and from the begin we were sure the author of this fine miniature was an artist (Sicilian or foreign) working then in Palermo, at the court of King Ferdinand III of Sicily.

Through brief search we found only one (!) listed miniaturist working in early 1810s in Palermo (capital of Sicily and residence town of King Ferdinand III). Name of this artist - Giuseppe Tresca.

Giuseppe Tresca was born in the second half of the 18th century in Naples and died in Palermo in 1816. He was a church painter, portrait miniaturist and engraver. Among his religious works is his 1793 painting executed for the Church of St. Leonardo in Palermo.
A lot of miniatures painted by Tresca in the late 18th century of the members of the Neapolitan Royal family are in the collection of the House of Habsburg in Vienna.
